God Wants You to … What?

God wants you to love Him and keep His commandments (as stated in Ecclesiastes 12:13, among many other places in the Bible), but that’s not the title of this post. The title of this post is not about what God demands from you, but what God wants to give you as a result of your obedience. So, what does God want for you?

According to Proverbs 3, God wants to give you some amazing stuff! Proverbs 3:1, 2 says: (1) “My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments: (2) For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee.” Really? Long life and peace? Nice! Long life without peace? Not so much.

Let’s look at Proverbs 3:3, 4. (3) “Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart: (4) So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man.” Weave mercy and truth into your innermost being and you will attain the quality of character that pleases God and earns the trust and respect of your fellow man. Imagine how it would affect your relationships if everyone around you knew that, no matter what, you would act with mercy and truth.

Lastly, Proverbs 3:9, 10 says: (9) “Honour the Lord with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase: (10) So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.” Imagine you had someone watch your pet and gave them a set of instructions on how to manage the care of your pet. Now, imagine they did mostly the opposite of your instructions. Would you let them watch your pet again? No! Why do we think God should entrust us with more financial and material increase if we haven’t shown ourselves to be trustworthy with what He’s already given us?

So, we’ve looked at these passages and thought about what happens when someone obeys God, but I still haven’t told you the rest of the title to this blog post. Let’s think about this:

  • If someone obeys God and keeps His commandments, they will have long life and peace.
  • If someone obeys God and lives with mercy and truth, they will have pleased God and earned man’s respect.
  • If someone obeys God and is a trustworthy manager of His possessions, he will be entrusted with more.

God Wants You to Win: that’s the title and message of this blog post. He wants you to have a long, fulfilling life and peace and strong relationships and financial blessing. He has a plan for you to win in life, and it’s encapsulated in the simple phrase: “Love God and keep His commandments.” Let’s strive to love God, because when we win, He gets the glory.
