Serve God – Isaiah 6 (part 3)

God’s purpose in Isaiah 6 is for Isaiah to See Him and Know Him (read the last couple of posts for more on these), but something else happens as Isaiah Sees and Knows God:
Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me. (verse 8)
That priority is true with you. God is most concerned with you Seeing Him, and Knowing Him.

As Isaiah stands aware of the presence of God it’s as if he just happens to hear the Lord saying: “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” You get the impression sometimes that the call of God is an abrupt, or dreaded thing, God never intends His call to be perceived this way. God didn’t hunt Isaiah down to force this call on him, Isaiah was listening for God, aware of His presence, and when he heard God’s call, he responded in the most appropriate way: “Here am I; send me.” God’s Priority in this passage seems to be revealing Himself to Isaiah. Serving God after these becomes a natural response instead of a dreaded necessity.

Isaiah’s purification inspired him to the service of God. Isaiah was incapable of this service before the Lord cleansed him. He told God: “…I am a man of unclean lips…”. God sent an angel to purify Isaiah for the service that He had for Isaiah. Only because of a sacrifice was Isaiah able to be cleansed. Jesus’ sacrifice for us is what cleanses and enables us to serve the Lord. We, like Isaiah, can accurately claim to be unworthy of serving God because of our impurity. But through faith in Jesus Christ you and I can too be cleansed, and enabled for the service of God. God is able to cleanse and use anyone!

In my own life, when I “See God” and “Know God” I have been very aware of an urgent call to be doing what pleases God. Have you Seen God? Do you Know Him?
